CODE OF SILENCE SERIES
Zonderkids recently sent me copies of Tim Shoemaker’s “Code of Silence” series free of charge in exchange for my honest review of them.
I am so excited! I seldom find a story that so holds my attention that I can’t put it down…but these certainly did!
In “Code of Silence – Living a lie comes with a price.” opens to introduce us to Cooper, Gordy, and Hiro. They are three teenagers who are best friends. While having a friends’ night out, they find themselves in the middle of a robbery, in which a friend is beaten to unconsciousness. In order to keep himself alive, Cooper becomes WAY too good at lying – which almost gets him killed. His lying also tears a hole into his friendships with Gordy and, especially Hiro. We’re also introduced to the school bully, Lunk, who thinks Cooper was a part of the robbery…SO GOOD!
“Back Before Dark – Sometimes rescuing a friend from darkness means going in after them.” was just as good. Lunk joins the three amigos when Gordy is kidnapped and Cooper loses it. Cooper begins making mistakes – with Lunk backing him every step of the way – that could get him and his friends arrested or even killed. He gets his dad and uncle in trouble with one of his little escapades trying to find his cousin and best friend, Gordy. After Cooper goes into school and is met with a poster announcing a memorial for Gordy, he can’t take it anymore and does something incredibly stupid and dangerous…Of course, I’m not going to tell you what…You have to read it for yourselves!! :-D
Do I recommend this series? You betcha!! If you grew up with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, like I did, you will LOVE this series…I hope the four friends will become the next teen investigators and this will be a long series…I would like to see Lunk get saved and he and Hiro become a couple. If you enjoy juvenile suspense fiction, you will enjoy these books…Tim, I can hardly wait for the next installment of the “Code of Silence” series!!
