“Benevolence
– Ministering to the Poor and Needy” is a non-fiction self help book written by
Teena M. Stewart. In it she teaches
first what benevolence is. The Bible
tells us to help our widows/widowers and orphans. I like the way Teena broadens the definition of
widows and widowers to include military spouses and single parents by divorce. I also like how she broadens orphans to
include people who may live far from any family support unit (not just
children). As always, she has Scripture
or famous quotes to begin each chapter and uses personal stories to make the
chapters interesting. I love the way she
includes “Points to Ponder” so her books can be used for a personal Bible study
or a study group. Teena includes several
types of benevolence, such as a ministry fair or Habitat for Humanity, as well
as the way to set up and manage a benevolence ministry. The Appendix includes sample forms and a
section of Scriptures.
I would
recommend this book to those who have an interest in setting up a benevolence
ministry or even working in one.
