“Dark Sons” was sent to me by Blink – a division of
Zondervan Publishing – free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.
“Dark Sons” is a Christian fiction novel, written by
Nikki Grimes. I love the way the book is
written almost like a poetry anthology.
She writes from the point of view of someone from the Bible and her
character. This is the second book I
have read of hers.
In “Dark Sons” the characters are Ishmael and
Sam. They are both dealing with the
break-up of their parents and their families.
Both of their daddies abandoned them.
This book deals a lot with forgiveness.
Ishmael had to forgive Sarah, Abraham, and his mom, Hagar, at
times. Sam has to forgive his daddy, his
step-mom, and even his mom, at times.
Just remember that this is written from Nikki
imagining how it COULD BE, not exactly what the Bible says, so things may not
be exactly how you remember them…Case in point, her Ishmael is a seventeen year
old.
I do, however, recommend the book to middle schoolers
and up. With all of the divorce and
abandonment facing these modern days, I believe this book could help in healing
and forgiveness.
