“Wrestling with Tom Sawyer” was sent to me by Zonderkidz, free
of charge, in exchange for my honest review.
“Wrestling with Tom Sawyer” is a YOUNG ADULT fiction book written by L.L. Samson. It is one in the series called, “The Enchanted
Attic”. Others are “Facing the Hunchback
of Notre Dame”, “Saving Moby Dick”, and “Dueling with the Three Musketeers”. In this series a group of best friends have
found a secret room where they can bring characters from their favorite books
(BOOK WORLD) to life (REAL WORLD). Ophelia and Linus are twins and Walter is
their best friend. Ophelia and Walter
are extremely smart…Ophelia loves to act all bossy. Linus is just
friendly. They also have another friend,
Kyle, who is in a wheelchair.
The children decide, this time, to bring Tom Sawyer to the “Real
World”. The first encounter, after they wake Tom, is a fight. Tom wakes up and
punches Walter in the nose. Walter, who has had karate lessons, stands his
ground. Tom loves his new experiences…like eating a big breakfast, taking a
warm bath, and wearing nice clothes. He
also likes Kyle. He catches on fairly
quickly and becomes one of the group.
My favorite thing about this book (being a retired English
teacher) is how L.L. Samson uses high falootin’ words and then tells what they
mean. It’s like having an English lesson
as you read a fun book…I LOVE IT!! I would’ve used this book for a reading
assignment if I’d had it!!
I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading
the whole series!!
